Lion-Proof Boma Upgrades

About the Project

Conflict between lions and livestock is the greatest threat to our community’s wealth. We are installing solar-powered "Lion Lights" and reinforced fencing for more than 15 family bomas. This isn’t just about saving lions—it’s about protecting the Maasai way of life. In the Naretunoi conservancy, a single lion attack can wipe out a family\'s life savings. We are installing solar-powered Lion Lights and high-tensile steel fencing for more than 15 high-risk family bomas. This project secures the Maasai "living bank account" (livestock) while removing the need for retaliatory lion hunting. By investing in these +15 households, you are enabling a future where lions and livestock thrive together through smart, sustainable technology.'

The "Ubuntu Boma" Standard: Why We Choose This Model

We are inspired by the impact seen in the community, such as Lena’s story, where the "Ubuntu Boma" model has brought total peace to herders. Lena, a local leader, now "sleeps like a child" because her livestock is safe from lions. At Naretunoi, we are adopting this high-standard, proven technology to protect the next 15 households in our sector. Seeing this success drives us to bring that same peace to our families.
